Reviews: By SEAN ELLIOTT, Senior Editor IFMagazine Now, I can say that I am firmly entrenched in THE BIONIC WOMAN camp of followers. The show has had an up and down feel for me thus far with a great pilot, a couple of so-so episodes, and then a couple of great episodes; but by this point I really am enjoying the series. Just in time for it to end due to the current problems in Hollywood, right?
In any case, ‘The List’ was an excellent follow-up to the last episode that aired the week before last, since last week was Halloween. This time around Jaime Sommers (Michelle Ryan) is sent to Paris to retrieve a list that has been leaked of the identities of undercover CIA agents. Accompanying her on this mission is CIA agent Tom (Jordan Bridges) who was also in the last episode.
Joining the cast for this episode was also Callum Keith Rennie as the man who had the CIA list and was the big baddie. Fans of Eick’s other show BATTLESTAR GALACTICA will recognize Rennie as Leoben Conoy, the Cylon agent with a murderous crush on another BIONIC WOMAN Katee Sackhoff. A lot of people get bothered by actors being used repeatedly by producers or directors, but I think it makes it just a hair more fun to look for these individuals in new material from a creator you know and trust. Once again I have to say that it is not only Ryan that is drawing me in more and more to this show with her very likeable leading character, but also the supporting cast. Kevin Rankin who plays Nathan, Jaime’s operator (think THE MATRIX) the guy who sits and monitors all of the input from Jaime’s bionic implants, was back as just as fun as before cracking one-liners and making the mood lighter in pretty much every scene he was in. He’s a character that makes the show fun to watch and it looks like he’s having a good time with it.
Plus I hope they keep Jaime’s CIA boyfriend around. He’s a fun character, a great foil to her innocent (yet super strong) secret agent. More importantly, he’s as pretty to look at as she is and the tow of them have really believable chemistry onscreen. I get so tired of seeing pairs on TV or movies, where the chemistry is as flat as a pancake.
I admit I am apprehensive to see where this season is going to leave off due to the writers’ strike, but hopefully Eick and crew had a plan up their sleeves in case of just such an emergency. A-
